72 people were arrested for assault on West Bengali SIR officers in Balasore, Odisha.

72 people have been taken into custody by police in relation to the alleged attack on two West Bengal SIR officials in the Balasore region of Odisha. The officers were allegedly beaten by locals who believed they were kidnapping children.
Sources claim that the event happened in Raibania in Balasore on Wednesday. According to reports, the two officials accidentally entered the area while traveling to neighboring West Bengal's Nayagram.
According to reports, several locals became suspicious of them and charged them with kidnapping. A mob allegedly physically assaulted and imprisoned the authorities.

Police officers were reportedly met with opposition from the throng, including scuffles and furious discussions, when they arrived on the site to rescue the two men.
In relation to the incident, police have opened two distinct cases. Seventy-two people have been detained and sent to court, according to officials.
Reacting to the incident, Balasore Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Niranjan Behera appealed to the public not to believe or act on rumours related to child abduction. Instead than enforcing the law on their own, he asked residents to notify the local police right once if they suspect somebody.

Additionally, the police told locals to call the emergency helpline at 112 if they had any suspicions. Authorities reaffirmed that there may be severe legal repercussions for disseminating or acting upon unsubstantiated rumors.
"We have two distinct cases that we have registered. About 72 individuals have been detained and will be sent to court, Behera stated.
