On Thursday, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Meta announced their partnership to introduce silent mobile verification (SMV) for Vi users on Meta's Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp platforms.
During registration, mobile number validation, login and re-login, account recovery, and background security checks, the network-based authentication solution verifies users. These can be completed without requiring users to enter one-time passwords.
When a Vi user uses the telco's mobile network to access Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, the network itself validates the verification request. According to a statement from the organisations, this will result in quicker onboarding, fewer manual tasks, and improved security against phishing and digital identity threats.

For all of its platforms, Meta's biggest market is India. As of April 2026, Vi had 198.5 million customers.
Vodafone Idea CEO Abhijit Kishore stated, "We are enabling SMV capabilities through our partnership with Meta that enhance cyber safety and reduce fraud risks, while creating seamless authentication experiences for users across some of the country's most widely used digital platforms."
"We're happy to work with Vi to bring this capability to their subscribers using WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram," stated Arun Srinivas, managing director (MD) and country head of Meta in India.

"The network-based authentication was a critical step forward in making verification simpler, seamless, and more secure for users across the company's platforms," he continued.
