In West Bengal politics, there has been talk of a new Trinamool Congress being formed without Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee. After the two MLAs were expelled, that very prospect is becoming more likely. There are rumours that about fifty MLAs may leave the Trinamool. There are even rumours that several MPs are in negotiations.

At a planned meeting at Mamata Banerjee's home, the great majority of MLAs were not there. While some are being expelled for participating in anti-party actions, others are publicly criticising the top leadership.
Mamata Banerjee blamed both the BJP and a group within her own party for this predicament. She claimed that the BJP is using financial inducements and intimidation to try to steal Trinamool MLAs and MPs.

At least 60 of the 80 Trinamool MLAs did not attend the Saturday meeting in Kalighat.
Some MLAs met at Rathin Ghosh's home at the same time, according to sources who spoke to NDTV. Ghosh was also absent from the Mamata Banerjee meeting. "I was unwell, that's why I could not attend," he replied.
Additionally, a hotel in south Kolkata was reportedly the meeting place for certain Trinamool MLAs.Without mentioning any specific individuals, Trinamool MLA Kunal Ghosh stated, "Surely, a human being ought to possess at least some semblance of conscience."There is a chance that an effort is being made to divide the party. But I want to hold these people accountable for this, not the BJP. He declared, "They are opportunists."
