Bhubaneswar celebrated its 78th Foundation Day on Monday with a variety of formal programs and ceremonial festivities hosted throughout the city. The capital marked the occasion with the presence of public representatives, officials, and inhabitants.
The primary ceremony is being held in front of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, with dignitaries and citizens gathering to honour the anniversary.
City Decorated For Occasion
The city has been beautifully decked for the celebrations, with key squares attracting the attention of both locals and visitors. Hundreds of people came in various locations to observe the Foundation Day activities.
The events included a bright march and a public meeting. Schoolchildren participated in the march, which was planned to begin around the time of reporting.

Several significant figures, including the Bhubaneswar MP, the Speaker, and the Mayor, attended the occasion, as did other distinguished visitors.On the occasion, a number of distinguished individuals were awarded the 'Rajdhani Gaurav Samman' in acknowledgement of their contributions.
Historical Significance of the Day
Foundation Day commemorates the declaration of Bhubaneswar as the capital on April 13, 1948. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, attended the momentous ceremony and formally launched the city in its new capacity.
The city has grown over time to become a cultural, commercial, and educational hub.A two-day programme is currently underway.
Official rituals are taking place at the foundation stone site in front of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. The celebrations will last two days, on April 13 and 14, and will include a variety of events.
