Google announced the opening of an AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised. PM Modi wrote on X on Tuesday, "Happy to see the Google AI Hub open in the vibrant city of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh."
"This multifaceted investment, which includes gigawatt-scale data centre infrastructure, is in line with our vision to create a Viksit Bharat," the prime minister continued.
It will have a significant impact on the democratisation of technology. Additionally, it would guarantee AI for All, providing our citizens with state-of-the-art tools, strengthening our digital economy, and securing India's position as a world leader in technology," PM Modi stated.
The plan from the US tech giant comes as Washington and New Delhi are embroiled in a heated diplomatic dispute over tariffs and a delayed trade agreement.
The AI centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, will be Google's largest outside of the United States, according to the tech giant. It will have a campus of one gigawatt data centres, new large-scale energy sources, and an enhanced fiber-optic network.

"It's great to speak with India PM Narendra Modi to share our plans for the first-ever Google AI hub in Visakhapatnam, a landmark development," Google CEO Sundar Pichai said on Tuesday.
This hub integrates large-scale energy infrastructure, a new international subsea gateway, and gigawatt-scale computing capability. Through it, we will make our industry-leading technology available to Indian businesses and consumers, promoting AI innovation and spurring economic prosperity throughout the nation," he declared on X.

The newest Vishakhapatnam AI hub will be linked to Google's worldwide network, according to Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud.
