The Mamata Banerjee government has come under heavy fire from West Bengal BJP chairman and Rajya Sabha MP Shamik Bhattacharya following the recent arrest of terror suspects suspected of having ties to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
He asserted that "a silent invasion of demography" was occurring through Bengal, endangering national security, and stated that this was not the first time such arrests had occurred in the state. This has happened before. Prior to that, Bengali ISIS terrorists were taken into custody. The only party that consistently claims that Bengal is responsible for our nation's silent demographic invasion is the BJP. The national security is being jeopardized as a result. The neighboring districts' demographics have been jeopardized.Bengal is being used as a location for the nation's demographic shifts. It poses a risk to the nation's internal security," Bhattacharya stated.
Following a 10-day operation in which the Delhi Police's Special Cell thwarted what it described as a significant terror plot, political tensions escalated. Eight individuals, including seven Bangladeshi nationals, were taken into custody after officers dismantled a LeT-affiliated terror module. The activities were conducted in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
The initial arrests took place in Malda, West Bengal, where two suspects, Robil ul Islam and Umar Farooq, were taken into custody by police. Investigators discovered other suspects hiding in the Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu thanks to content discovered on their cell phones.Eight people were detained in all. Six of them were taken into custody from Tiruppur's textile factories: Mohammed Shabat, Umar, Mohammed Litan, Mohammed Shahid, Mohammed Ujjal, and Mizanur Rahman. According to police sources, they had all been using fictitious Aadhaar cards to work in garment facilities. Sixteen SIM cards and eight cell phones were found.
Bengal's Opposition Leader The state government was also criticized by Suvendu Adhikari, who said Bengal had turned into a "hub of militants."
"The Kashmir Special Task Force (STF) detained Javed Munshi two years ago, and the Assam STF detained a person from Murshidabad," he stated. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) must be overthrown because it has turned Bengal into a hotbed of militant activity. It will be uprooted by all nationalists. The arrests also occurred a few days after posters bearing the phrases "Free Kashmir" and "Stop Genocide in Kashmir" were discovered at a number of Delhi and Kolkata metro stations on February 7–8. Security agencies were alerted, and the Special Cell of the Delhi Police was requested to look into the matter.
In response, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh stated that all issues pertaining to interstate or international connections fell under the purview of central intelligence and investigative organizations. The Central Government is solely responsible for this. The State administration, the State Police, or any local police station have no jurisdiction over it. Central intelligence and investigative agencies are in charge of handling any connections to other states or international connections.
