Dhurandhar 2 is nine days shy of completing a month in theatres worldwide. With each passing day, the Aditya Dhar picture, starring Ranveer Singh, is closer to becoming India's highest-grossing film, dethroning Pushpa 2, whose lifetime earnings stand at Rs 1,234.10 crore (net).
Amid the Dhurandhar 2 tempest, many filmmakers are rethinking their film release dates. One of these films is Salman Khan's Maatrubhumi, which was directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan of Salman Khan Films.
Maatrubhumi will miss its April 17 release date and is expected to arrive in August, according to reports. The film, formerly titled Battle of Galwan, is based on the 2020 confrontation in the Galwan Valley between the Indian Army and Chinese troops.
Industry insiders say that the makers of Maatrubhumi want to match up to the benchmark set by Dhurandhar 2. Due to recent reshoots, the movie's release was delayed. "Dhurandhar 2 has set a benchmark for all upcoming films." Maatrubhumi's creators wanted to construct something even grander, so they reshot significant chunks of the film. The post-production is on," sources said.
The developers have yet to announce a new release date for Maatrubhumi.
In February, India began loosening business barriers with China in attempt to repair ties and put an end to six years of hostility.
The film was formally revealed on Salman Khan's 60th birthday, December 27, 2025.
