Advocate Rakesh Kishore's temporary membership in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has been revoked with immediate effect, thereby prohibiting him from practicing law in the Supreme Court.
Kishore, a temporary member with No. K-01029/RES dated 27.07.2011, "is terminated with immediate effect, and his name shall be removed from the rolls of the Association," according to a resolution passed by SCBA.
The unanimously approved resolution further said that such "reprehensible, disorderly, and intemperate behaviour" was inappropriate for a court officer and incompatible with the discipline required of bar members.
Furthermore, it stated that Kishore's SCBA membership card, if it is issued, "stands cancelled and forfeited forthwith" and that the Supreme Court Secretary-General would be notified to promptly cancel his proximity access card.
According to the article, the 71-year-old attorney is being considered for criminal contempt proceedings. The Attorney General has received a letter requesting authorisation to file a lawsuit. He has also been suspended by the Indian Bar Council.
Kishore informed news agency ANI that he acted out of "emotional pain" over what he saw as recurrent judicial meddling in Hindu religious matters. Kishore has insisted he has no criminal history or political links. He showed no remorse for what he had done.
