In Sonepur, Odisha, counterfeit money worth Rs 8.47 lakh was found; two people were detained

During a late-night vehicle checking drive at Block Chhak in the Sonepur district on Tuesday, Sonepur Police discovered counterfeit notes worth Rs 8.47 lakh as part of a major crackdown on the circulation of counterfeit currency.
A automobile that was allegedly moving under questionable circumstances was stopped by police acting on suspicion. Officials found 1,695 fake Rs 500 notes in the car after a careful investigation. In relation to the case, two people were arrested right away.
The suspects are from the districts of Jajpur and Nayagarh, according to police officials. The two allegedly admitted to obtaining the counterfeit money from the Bargarh district and distributing it to different places during initial questioning.The two accused have been formally arrested, and further investigation is underway to uncover the larger network behind the racket. Police suspect the involvement of more individuals and are working to trace the source of the counterfeit notes.
Notably, the notes were allegedly created in Sonepur as part of a fraudulent money scheme in the Bargarh region. Investigators are currently looking into potential connections between the two cases.
In an attempt to break up the network of counterfeit money, police have stepped up their monitoring and are probably going to conduct more raids in the days ahead.
