In the Monte Carlo Final, Jannik Sinner defeats Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets to reclaim the top spot.

On Sunday, Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz, the reigning champion, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to win the Monte Carlo Masters for the first time and take back the top spot in the world tennis rankings. "The result is amazing," Sinner remarked. In what is known as the "Sincaraz" rivalry, four-time Grand Slam champion Sinner faced seven-time major winner Alcaraz in their ninth final. "Getting back to No. 1 means a lot to me." Sinner won his maiden Masters title on clay and his 27th career title overall, cutting Alcaraz's head-to-head record to 10-7. On Monday, the 24-year-old Italian will reclaim the top spot in the ATP rankings.

In windy circumstances at the Monte Carlo Country Club, Sinner overcame a 3-1 deficit in the second set and served out the match, winning on his first match point after Alcaraz returned a long forehand. The weather was different from what the tournament has brought—it was a little windy and breezy," Sinner remarked. "Winning a major title on this surface makes me very delighted. It means a lot to me, because I've never done it before."
Alcaraz struggled on Sunday, making 45 unintentional mistakes, despite having won his last 17 clay-court games.
He did, however, commend Sinner."What you are accomplishing right now is impressive," Alcaraz remarked. "Congratulations on everything."After Alcaraz's shot went out, Sinner fell to his knees and ran over to celebrate with his box.I tried to maintain the proper mindset because I was a little worn out," Sinner remarked. "Winning this trophy means a lot to me."
After sweeping Miami and Indian Wells and winning those finals in straight sets, Sinner became just the fourth man to advance to the finals of the season's first three Masters events. It was his third championship of the year. As the only player to win the first three Masters events of the year, he joined Novak Djokovic (in 2015).Alcaraz, a 22-year-old Spaniard, became the youngest man to win all four Grand Slam events at the Australian Open, one of his two victories this season.
After making an incredible comeback to overcome Sinner in the French Open final last year, he lost to Sinner in the Wimbledon final before triumphing over him once more in the U.S. Open final.
