On Monday, the government placed six-month restrictions on the import of glufosinate and its salts, a pesticide used in agriculture.
According to a statement from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), "the import of glufosinate and its salts... shall be restricted where the combined amount of the CIF (cost, insurance, freight) value and applicable anti-dumping duty, calculated on a per kilogram basis, is less than Rs 1,154."
A government certificate of registration will be required for the imports of certain product categories, and they will be examined after a year.
In FY25, India imported $1.65 billion worth of fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, and rodenticides, of which about $655 million came from China.
