Iran refuted claims on Monday that Tehran is imposing "tolls" on Indian ships in response to US President Donald Trump's vow to deny passage to any ship discovered to have paid transit fees to Iran, calling such payments "illegal world extortion."Iran's ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, was quoted by news agency ANI as saying at a press event, "You can ask the Indian government if we have charged anything up to now."
His comments are consistent with New Delhi's stance, which has continuously denied paying any payments to guarantee the safe passage of nine LPG containers when movement was restricted due to the fighting.
Iran Regarding India's Relations
Fathali thanked the Indian government and people, saying that India helped Tehran through a "tough period." During the current situation, he referred to India as a "reliable and compassionate partner."
According to ANI, Fathali stated, "I think the people of India have shown that they are truly dependable and compassionate partners in times of hardship."
Despite the fact that around fifteen Indian-flagged ships are still stuck in the Persian Gulf as a result of continuous shipping restrictions, Fathali emphasised Tehran's "good relations" and shared strategic interests with New Delhi.
Fathali gave a sombre description of the humanitarian situation about the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel, stating that in the past 40 days, over 3,700 people have died and over 30,000 have been injured in Iran.He highlighted the extensive and methodical harm done to vital civilian infrastructure, pointing out that hospitals, schools, transportation systems, and energy facilities had all suffered greatly.
