Strong earthquake tremors rocked Kolkata and a number of other regions on Friday, frightening many who fled their homes and workplaces. Bangladesh is where the earthquake started, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
There have been no initial reports of damage or injuries, and the earthquake's depth and severity have not yet been officially confirmed.
Many people in Kolkata described the intensity on social media. Supratim Maitra commented on X, "Small quake but big panic," noting that even a small tremor sent shockwaves through neighborhoods.
Vinay Kumar Dokania, another user, reported that the tremors were exceptionally protracted, saying, "That #earthquake lasted over 30 seconds and was very powerful."
