Malaysia says it is looking forward to the ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia.

Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan stated on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump will travel to Malaysia on October 26 and that he was "looking forward" to seeing a ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, two neighbours in Southeast Asia.

In their bloodiest fighting in almost ten years, tensions over undemarcated spots on the two countries' 817-kilometer (508-mile) land border exploded into a violent five-day clash in July that killed at least 48 people and temporarily displaced hundreds of thousands more in Cambodia.

"During the summit, we hope to see the signing of a declaration, known as the Kuala Lumpur Accord, between these two neighbours to ensure peace and a lasting ceasefire," Mohamad told the press.

He was speaking of a gathering of leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which is scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, from October 26 to October 28.Following a persistent peace campaign by Anwar and Trump's phone calls to the leaders of both countries, Malaysia mediated an early ceasefire on July 28 that put an end to the fighting.

According to Mohamad, Malaysia and the US will help Thailand and Cambodia reach a wider truce that calls for both countries to withdraw all heavy weaponry and mines from their borders.
The current ASEAN chair, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, has stated that Trump will attend the meetings; however, Washington has not yet provided an official confirmation.
According to the Thai foreign ministry on Sunday, US and Malaysian officials attended a weekend meeting in Kuala Lumpur where the two nations' foreign ministers discussed the truce.
Mohamad added, without providing any details, that the East Asia Summit, which will take place during this month's ASEAN summit, will release a chairman's statement instead of a joint statement because the United States had objected to the usage of the word "inclusivity."

The summit will be attended by the leaders of all ten members of the grouping as well as trading partners like the US, China, Japan, and Russia.
