After more than 20 years in charge of the state administration, JDU president Nitish Kumar has stated that he will be leaving his position as Chief Minister and joining the Rajya Sabha, ending all rumors. In a post on X, Kumar stated that he has always desired to join both Houses of Parliament and both Houses of the state legislature. He has already served as an MLC, an MLA, and a Lok Sabha MP; a Rajya Sabha term would round out the foursome.
"You have trusted and supported me for the past twenty years, and I have given my all to serve you. "Bihar is setting new standards in development because of your trust and support," he added. "I've wanted to serve in both Houses of Parliament and both Houses of state legislatures since the start of my parliamentary career. I wish to run for Rajya Sabha MP in the next election because of this," Kumar wrote. "I promise to keep working for a developed Bihar and to maintain our friendship. The next administration will have my undivided support and direction."
According to a previous NDTV article, Kumar's advisers claim that the peer dynamics of Bihar politics are the reason behind his desire to join all four Houses. Three prominent figures in Bihar politics for many years—Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad, and the late Sushil Modi—began their journey together during the anti-Emergency movement. With the exception of Nitish Kumar, the late Ram Vilas Paswan and Sharad Yadav also served in the Rajya Sabha.
Kumar has served in the Lok Sabha, the Assembly, and the Legislative Council, but not the Rajya Sabha. Through this change, he will be able to join all four chambers of the Indian parliamentary and state legislative systems, which is a unique accomplishment shared by Lalu Yadav and Sushil Modi. The BJP politician who will succeed Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister is the subject of much conjecture in Bihar's political circles. Bihar Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, Union Minister Nityanand Rai, and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary are the favorites.
Choudhary, the Number 2 in the cabinet and one of the most powerful BJP leaders in Bihar, also oversees the important home portfolio. He was once the head of the state party. The central government's junior home minister is Nityanand Rai. He is a former MLA, a three-term MP, and a former head of the Bihar BJP. In addition to serving as the head of the Bihar BJP, Jaiswal has been a member of the legislative council three times.
