Odisha is still experiencing a heatwave; 26 districts are under a yellow warning, and rain is expected until June 13.

Odisha is currently reeling under an intense heatwave, with the regional Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar issuing a yellow warning for several coastal and interior districts.

The sweltering conditions are expected to be accompanied by Nor'wester (Kalbaisakhi) activity, bringing thunderstorms and gusty winds in some parts of the state.

11 Districts Under Heat and Humidity Alert

According to the latest update, a yellow warning has been issued for 11 districts — Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore — in view of extreme heat and intense humidity conditions.

These areas are expected to experience persistent hot and humid weather, with little relief during the day.

Kalbaisakhi Conditions Expected Across Odisha

In addition to the heatwave, the state may also witness the impact of Kalbaisakhi conditions from today. Thunderstorms with lightning and rain are likely in several regions up to June 13.

A yellow alert has been extended to Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts for today, warning of moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.

Wind Speeds May Reach 40 km/h

Winds are expected to blow at a speed of 30 to 40 km/h during the thunderstorm activity. Residents in the affected districts have been advised to take precautions, especially during peak daytime hours and in open areas during thunderstorms.

The weather department has urged people to stay indoors during extreme heat and to avoid exposure during lightning activity.
