As hundreds of Havisyalis, or female devotees, began their month-long observance of the sacred Kartik Brata in honour of Lord Radhadamodar, the holy town of Puri came alive with devotion.
Chants, bhajans, and ceremonies all contribute to the spiritual ambiance around the Jagannath Temple, which is calm yet lively.
Approximately 2,500 Havisyalis from different districts of Odisha are sleeping in separate camps in Puri to carry out the customary observance, according to official sources.
The arrangements include accommodation, Mahaprasad meals, temple visits, evening bhajan sessions, and religious discourses, all organised under the supervision of the district administration and temple authorities.
To support the initiative, the State government has sanctioned Rs 3.3 crore under the Havisyali Yojana. Additionally, another Rs 70 lakh has been allocated this year to further improve facilities for the devotees, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the holy month.
