Public Enterprises Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra recently told the House that at least six state-owned PSUs in Odisha are losing money.
In response to a query by MLA Upasana Mohapatra in the state assembly asking for information about the state PSUs that were losing money, Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra provided this information.
GRIDCO Ltd, Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC), Odisha State Financial Corporation (OSFC), Kalinga Studios Ltd, Odisha Rural Housing and Development Corporation (ORHDC), and Odisha State Cashew Development Corporation (OSCDC) are among the organizations that are causing losses, the Minister said.
"PSUs Are Having Structural And Operational Issues"
Each PSU faces unique operational and structural issues, according to Mahapatra, who also explained the causes of the financial strain. Non-cost-reflective power prices and ongoing compliance problems with former power distribution businesses have been connected to GRIDCO's losses.
While Kalinga Studios Ltd. has struggled because of antiquated infrastructure and a lack of new equipment, which has hindered its capacity to generate adequate revenue, OSRTC has been struggling with growing operational costs and structural constraints.
Due to labor shortages and unresolved loan portfolios, OSFC's lending operations have been frozen for years, which has affected its financial viability. In a similar vein, ORHDC has been experiencing ongoing financial difficulties as a result of the discontinuation of its primary business operations, which left it with few sources of income.
According to the Minister, the government is aware of these PSUs' financial situation and is looking into structural and financial remedial actions to revitalize and streamline their operations.
