Following the shooting death of BJP leader and senior advocate Pitabas Panda by unidentified criminals on Monday night, tensions erupted in several areas of Berhampur.
The incident reportedly happened outside his Brahmanagar home, where two attackers fired at him before running away. The critically injured Panda was taken by locals to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur right away, where medical professionals pronounced him dead.
Panda was a member of the Odisha State Bar Council and a well-known attorney in Berhampur. His sudden passing has caused a great deal of grief and indignation within political and legal communities.
In order to identify the attackers, police are looking through local CCTV footage as part of their investigation into the shooting. To find and apprehend the criminals responsible for the heinous crime, a specialised team has also been established.

According to sources on Monday, a local businessman in Buduli village, which is within the jurisdiction of Bhanjanagar police limits in Ganjam district, died last night after a little quarrel became deadly. Panchanan Behera, also known as Panchu, was identified as the deceased.
Sources claim that a group of young people argued in front of Panchu's store on Sunday night. The group allegedly attacked his two kids when they asked the young people to leave the property. Panchu stepped in, only to be attacked violently.
According to reports, when police got on the site, they momentarily defused the situation. Panchu was taken to the Bhanjanagar health centre after he started bleeding from his nose and ears later that evening. Unfortunately, while receiving treatment, he passed away from his wounds.
