The US is furious with Iran, but 5,000 sailors on the USS Ford have to deal with 650 broken restrooms.

As US President Donald Trump threatens to take military action against Iran, the US is assembling the biggest fleet of US aircraft and warships in the Middle East in decades. But for over 5,000 sailors on the biggest aircraft carrier in the world, the war with Iran is the least of their problems.
The Extended Deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford
Since June of last year, the USS Gerald R. Ford has remained at sea. The Republican leader's decision to prolong its deployment for a second time has caused a number of issues, including sewage issues and blocked toilets, to worsen.
In January, former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was captured in large part thanks to the Ford. The $13 billion carrier's restrooms are broken, and sailors are laboring nonstop to patch leaks.
Because it's a vacuum system, a single head issue might result in all of the ship's restrooms losing suction, making it challenging for the maintenance teams to identify a problem. Everything from T-shirts to a four-foot length of rope obstructing the system is discovered by the personnel. However, a loose section of the toilet's back appears to be the most frequent issue, according to NPR.
Personal Issues Affecting Sailors
According to a sailor on board who spoke to the Journal, the crew members are dissatisfied and furious and want to quit the Navy as soon as their deployment is over. The majority of the sailors are young adults in their early twenties who miss their loved ones and are unable to communicate with them while in "ghost mode" due to the confidentiality of carrier operations.
Currently, Washington has over a dozen warships in the Middle East, including three littoral combat ships, nine destroyers, and one aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln.
It is uncommon to have two US aircraft carriers in the Middle East. These carriers are manned by thousands of sailors and carry dozens of jets.
