Two people were detained in relation to the case on Monday when Ganjam police and the excise department found a four-wheeler in Buduli village under the Bhanjanagar police station that was loaded with 50 kg of ganja (dry cannabis).
The arrested people have reportedly been identified as Dushmant Kahar from Phiringia in the Kandhamal district and Bibhuti Nayak from the Tikabali area. The recovered ganja is expected to be worth Rs 5 lakh. Information that the shipment was being smuggled from Kandhamal to Bhubaneswar was sent to the authorities. The accused were taken into custody by the excise department and brought before the court.
"The vehicle tried to divert its way upon seeing us, so we pursued it and checked the car over suspicion," stated Aliva Majhi, SI for the Excise Department. The seizure demonstrates the continued efforts of law enforcement to stop illegal drug smuggling in the area. In order to identify any further people participating in the smuggling operation and track down the network behind it, authorities are still conducting investigations.
According to sources, the authorities reaffirmed that these measures are a part of a larger plan to stop illegal substances from being distributed throughout Odisha.
