The DMK, an ally of the Congress in Tamil Nadu, has declared that its leader, MK Stalin, should spearhead the opposition to the BJP, in yet another indication of a struggle for leadership within the INDIA alliance.
Leaders from neighboring states are pushing his father, Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin, to lead the democratic battle against the BJP, according to Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, has previously been accused of being unfit for the job by leaders of other opposition parties, who have called for a change of leadership within the INDIA group.
Udhayanidhi Stalin told an audience that MK Stalin has been a role model in both politics and government. "Leaders from other states are now urging our leader to spearhead a democratic fight against the BJP," he stated.
Udhayanidhi's comments could also be interpreted as political posturing given the context of seat-sharing negotiations between the Congress and the DMK prior to the Tamil Nadu elections. They also follow statements made by Mani Shankar Aiyar, a seasoned congressman with whom the party no longer associates, that Mamata Banerjee, the head of the Trinamool Congress, is essential to the INDIA bloc's continued existence.
The 'I', 'N', 'D', 'I', and 'A' of the INDIA alliance will all be lost without Mamata di. Aiyar stated, "Because Mamata Banerjee is the leader of this alliance, leaders of the DMK and Samajwadi Party could also play a leading role." Stalin was the "best man who could consolidate" the INDIA bloc, according to Aiyar's earlier statements.
Imran Masood, a Congress MP, has emphasized that Rahul Gandhi alone is capable of leading the opposition party. "I don't see anyone except Rahul Gandhi who can face these people (BJP) strongly," he stated.
Since its formation in 2023, the INDIA Opposition coalition has occasionally struggled with the issue of leadership. The Indian bloc was previously placed on "life support" by Omar Abdullah, the head of the National Conference and the chief minister of Jammu & Kashmir. The Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Uddhav Thackeray, made the statement that the "leadership question must be settled" in its publication, Saamana. Allies of the INDIA alliance have already alluded to the opposition camp's lack of unity and noted that gatherings held solely prior to elections do not aid them in their battle against the BJP.
