Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, attacked Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge the day following Kharge's statement regarding the change of leadership in Karnataka, saying, "He is like a watchman of the Gandhi family."
Kharge stated on Sunday that the Congress high command will make the decision about the chief minister change in Karnataka, adding that he has nothing to say about it at this time.
"I have nothing to say regarding the recent developments. Therefore, it is a waste of time for you (the media) to stand here, and I feel the same way. The top command will take care of it. You don't have to worry about it any more," Kharge told reporters in Bengaluru. As the national president of the Congress party, Kharge was mocked by a number of opposition figures who questioned, "If he is not the high command, then who else is?"
The Legislative Council's LoP, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, told reporters on Monday that Congress believes Mallikarjun Kharge is not a legitimate president. He serves as the Gandhi family's watchman. He's only taking care of a few things. He admitted that he is powerless and unable to take any action. He promises to speak with High Command.
Narayanaswamy questioned the identity of the Congress high command. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, or Priyanka Gandhi? As the president of the AICC, you (Mallikarjun Kharge) ought to be in charge.
In a previous post on X, BJP MLA Suresh Kumar also criticized the Congress leader, asking, "If Congress Party National President is NOT the High Command, then who else? It is truly absurd.
According to R Ashoka, the state assembly's leader of opposition, Kharge's powerlessness is a reflection of his true standing within the Congress party.
"The fake Gandhis who have made Kharge the national president just for name sake, by keeping all the power with themselves, are insulting a senior politician like Kharge," he wrote in an article on X.
There have been constant rumors about a change in Karnataka's chief minister due to the growing power struggle inside the ruling party.
The chief minister stated that four or five months prior, the high command had consented to a reorganization of the Karnataka Cabinet; nonetheless, he had recommended that the administration be permitted to finish its two and a half years in office. "Now we will follow whatever the high command decides," Siddaramaiah continued.
Following a trip to Delhi by certain lawmakers who support Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah met with Kharge. But Shivakumar then claimed he didn't know the lawmakers were coming to the capital to see Kharge.
According to news agency PTI, which cited party sources, another group of six Congress leaders who backed Shivakumar took a plane to New Delhi on Sunday night to meet with the Congress high command.
