In a tragic incident, a student went missing after being swept away while bathing in the sea along with his friends near the Paradip lighthouse on Saturday.
The missing student has been identified as Sheikh Aman who is a student of a college in Kendrapara.
As per reports, Aman, along with his six other classmates, were on a recreational visit to Paradip. He encountered the unfortunate incident while bathing with his friends in the sea.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was reportedly conducting a search operation to locate the missing student.
Upon being informed about the incident, CISF personnel reached the spot immediately and started the rescue operation with powerboats. Officials of the Paradip Marine Police Station also reached the spot to help in the rescue operation.
According to Aman's friends, he is around 19-20 years of age.
According to the local residents, the sea near Paradip becomes turbulent after 12 pm. However, the students were unaware of it. Moreover, ignoring the signage put on near the beach not to bathe in the sea, the students took a bath in the sea, and in the process, one among them was swept away.
The incident has sent ripples of concern through the academic community and among local residents.
"We seven students from Kendrapara came to Paradip sea. Sheikh Aman was swept away while we were bathing in the sea. We are the students of Kendrapara Autonomous College. He (Aman) was of short height and he was swept away by a strong current," said Aman's friend.
