Bhooth Bangla, the next horror comedy starring Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, will be released in theatres on April 16. After 14 years of working together, Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan return with this film. The teaser evokes the nostalgia associated with Priyadarshan and his brand of humour.
But this time, the nostalgia isn't only in the atmosphere; the great director has recycled dialogue from his own previous works. As soon as the trailer was out, the Internet dredged up throwback gold, demonstrating how the new film's trailer reuses old but great lines.
Hungama Meets Bhooth Bangla.
Can you envision a Priyadarshan comedy without Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav? Clearly not.
In the 2003 film Hungama, Paresh Rawal plays Radheshyam Tiwari and Rajpal Yadav plays Raja. A cult discourse that continues to resound throughout generations is: "Hum koi mandir ke ghanta hai, koi bhi aake baja jata hai..." (Am I a temple bell that anyone can ring occasionally?)"
Years have passed, yet Rajpal Yadav's complaint continues. In the Bhooth Bangla trailer, he delivers a modified version of the same phrase, pitched to Paresh Rawal: "Mujhe kya mandir ke ghanta samajh hai, jo bhi aata hai baja ke chala jata hai?" (Do you think I'm a temple bell that anyone who comes rings and leaves?)"
Bhagam Bhag: The Horror Returns
In the 2006 film, Akshay Kumar dances and speaks like a possessed man, saying "Behen dar gayi" (Sister was scared) to salvage the situation.
In the Bhooth Bangla trailer, Akshay Kumar insults Mithila Palkar (who plays his sister) by saying "Behen dar gayi" in nearly the same tone and sequence.
The Original Hera Pheri Between Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal
In the 2000 cult classic, Akshay Kumar (as Raju) wishes to strike Suniel Shetty (aka Shyam). However, it is Paresh Rawal (as the legendary Babu Bhaiya) who is targeted, as slapstick comedy reigns supreme in Priyadarshan's world.
The same action is replicated in the Bhooth Bangla teaser, with Paresh Rawal being hit while Akshay Kumar aims at someone else.Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar may have chosen to reprise these dialogues when they reunited after 14 years apart. Millennials may recall the Priyadarshan-Akshay magic, but Generation Z is unfamiliar with his unique lexicon.
