US President Donald Trump issued a "Fostering the Future" Executive Order on Thursday, expanding on the First Lady's commitment to update the foster care system and provide young people leaving foster care with the resources they require for success and independence.
"The Bible tells us that one of the measures of any society is how it cares for vulnerable children and orphans... so as we Make America Great Again, we are going to protect American children in foster care," Trump stated during his speech at the White House.
The order, according to Trump, aims to provide a safe home for every child.
"We firmly believe that every American child should have a loving and safe home under the Trump Administration, and we are committed to supporting the incredible families who make that possible.
Trump discussed how, each year, 15,000 kids leave foster care facilities to find themselves without much support.
Over 15,000 young people age out of the foster care system each year, and sadly, too many of them struggle to become independent. The order I will sign in a few moments will offer essential new resources to help young people transition out of the foster care system and enjoy a very happy and very successful life," he stated.
He gave Melania credit for the directive, citing her commitment to America's kids as the reason.
"This afternoon, I'm delighted to sign a historic executive order... to make America's foster care system better, fairer, and more effective than ever before... all of this has been made possible by First Lady Melania Trump's incredible devotion to America's youth," stated the president.
"I am incredibly proud of this executive action. It is both strategic and sympathetic. Melania stated, "I believe that this tiny spark today will start a significant and long-lasting national movement."
