FIFA 2026: Algeria rallies to defeat Jordan 2-1 in the World Cup

Algeria's chances of making it to the round of 16 were increased on Tuesday as they overcame Jordan 2-1 in their FIFA World Cup Group J match.
Nizar Al Rashdan's goal in the first half gave the Jordanians their first-ever lead in a World Cup game.However, Algeria rallied after halftime, with substitute Nadhir Benbouali scoring on 69 minutes after Riyad Mahrez's corner kick.
Mahrez nearly gave his team another goal a minute later, but his attempt bounced off the post. But in the 82nd minute, Amine Gouiri scored the game-winning goal when the ball fell to her.It was Algeria's first World Cup victory since 2014 and the first time they had triumphed in a World Cup match after giving up the first goal.
Algeria may still advance to the knockout stage by defeating Austria in their last Group J match despite losing to Argentina in their opening game.
Jordan, who had previously lost 3-1 to Austria in their opening match but showed heart in their first-ever World Cup play, were eliminated after a second straight loss.Algeria won in front of their supporters at Levi's Stadium after controlling a large portion of the second half.
