Heavy rainfall on Tuesday caused flash floods in the upper parts of Thathri town in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, damaging homes, businesses, and automobiles while obstructing the Doda-Kishtwar highway. There were no recorded casualties.
The twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar have seen three flash floods in the last two days as the hilly area continues to be battered by continuous rainfall.
A number of residential and commercial buildings were partially damaged when rocks, mud, and other debris rushed into Thathri town due to heavy rain in the upper regions, according to officials.
Numerous cars that were parked by the side of the road were covered with rubble. Some cars, according to the locals, were carried into the Chenab River.Additionally, the Doda-Kishtwar highway at Thathri was obstructed by the flash floods, causing traffic disruptions. In order to remove debris, reopen the road, and evaluate the damage, the district administration, police, and other authorities started restoration work.
The most recent occurrence occurred one day after a section of the Doda-Kishtwar roadway near the 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Power Project was damaged by flash floods brought on by constant rain.
According to Krishan Lal, Deputy Commissioner of Doda, the administration fixed damaged roads and reacted quickly to rain-related occurrences throughout the district.A small hill slope slip occurred in the Prem Nagar region of Thathri tehsil after this morning's downpour. The road was cleansed of the accumulated mud and debris in the morning, and traffic was resumed," he stated. He claimed that the Bagna Link Road and the roads in Chiralla Tehsil were also cleansed of stones and mud due to heavy rains.
Declaring that the instances were caused by heavy rainfall rather than cloudbursts, the deputy commissioner urged people not to worry or spread rumors.Such occurrences should not be referred to as cloudbursts. In hilly areas, these periods of intense rainfall frequently result in mud and tiny stones falling from hill slopes. When such circumstances occur, the administration is vigilant and reacts right away," he stated.
Before accepting or disseminating any information, he advised individuals to confirm it with the district administration or the District Control Room.
