In addition to drones and smuggled exotic species, both dead and alive, the Customs department confiscated suspected hydroponic cannabis worth around Rs 4 crore in four different cases at the Mumbai airport, officials reported on Monday.
In relation to the seizures, it detained four travellers who had arrived at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) from Bangkok and Colombo, according to an official.
In the first instance, he said, Customs detectives arrested the traveler in possession of the illegal substance and confiscated 1.964 kg of suspected hydroponic marijuana, valued at Rs 1.96 crore.
According to the official, they recovered wildlife (live creatures) in the second case, including iguanas (19), orange bearded dragons (10), raccoons (1 dead), quince monitor lizards (1 living), squirrels (2 critical, 1 dead), and Central American squirrel monkeys (2 dead).
He claimed that a passenger who was arrested had these endangered species hidden inside a trolley bag.
In the third instance, a passenger carrying seven drones worth Rs 32.19 lakh who had come from Colombo was stopped by the customs agency. According to him, these drones are hidden inside a trolley bag that the traveler is carrying.
n the fourth instance, the Customs detectives apprehended the traveler in possession of 1.93 kg of suspected hydroponic marijuana, which was worth Rs 1.93 crore on the black market. The official added that the traveler had come from Bangkok.
