In contemporary Test cricket, Joe Root has solidified his status as a great. Only the legendary Sachin Tendulkar is higher on the world rankings than the England hero, who is his nation's best scorer in the longest format. Root is frequently questioned about his chances of surpassing Tendulkar as the highest-scoring batsman in Test cricket. Root did his best to avoid answering this difficult question, but this time he gave in. Root admits that the Master Blaster is a true great of the game, even though it's clear that he wants to surpass Tendulkar's record.
He stated, "Well, I get asked it enough times now that I can't really ignore it even if I try to," in an interview with The Athletic.
Root was constantly praising Tendulkar for his career accomplishments in both Test and One-Day International cricket. What Sachin Tendulkar accomplished in the game is astounding. You have to trust me when I say that it is sufficient for me to simply be conversing with him. He played in my first Test match and made his debut before I was even born! His longevity is impressive in and of itself, and when you consider the runs he scored in Test cricket, you'll see that he also has 50 hundreds in ODI cricket," he remarked.
Root also noted how challenging it is to maintain the same level of performance once you realise that you are constantly in the spotlight. He was India's most well-known figure at the time. "Serious, serious player," he remarked.
Root didn't hesitate to acknowledge the focus and belief he needs to overcome the all-time great from India, even though there is no questioning his skill and the reality that he might as well go on to break Tendulkar's record.
He stated, "I'm always looking to evolve, to try and add things to my batting," regarding his performance. "To ensure that I feel as compact and technically sound as possible so that when the games actually start, I can play what's in front of me and think tactically instead of worrying about technical issues or anything else in the middle." The England veteran stated, "It sounds so easy, but when I'm at the crease, I just want to be playing the game."
