The construction of India's second longest railway bridge is moving quickly in the Nayagarh district of Odisha, setting up one of the nation's most ambitious railway engineering achievements.
The enormous viaduct, which rises to a height of almost 80 feet, is a component of the Khurda–Balangir railway project. Once operational, it promises to provide travelers with an amazing travel experience.
Building Work at Full Swing
The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has published overhead film showing the scope of the current work in the Nayagarh and Daspalla regions, where massive pillars are beginning to take shape. A significant portion of the long-awaited Khurda–Balangir rail line, which aims to enhance communication between western and coastal Odisha, is the bridge that connects Jamusahi to Kulurukumpa.
50–60% of the construction has reportedly already been finished, and the work has reportedly continued unabated. The Central and State governments are working together to advance the project.
"The construction of the 80-foot viaduct between Daspalla and Purunacuttack is going to be the second longest railway bridge in India," stated local resident Hadibandhu Mahakud. According to what we've been told, it will be 4.77 kilometers long and supported by 182 enormous spans. It's an excellent initiative.
"We, the residents of Daspalla, are thrilled that this enormous viaduct project is in progress. This is a moment of pride for the entire state, not just Daspalla. Our viaduct would be the second longest in the nation because Assam has the longest," a resident said.
The second-longest bridge in India, after Bogibeel
This 4.77-kilometer rail bridge, which is supported by 182 enormous spans, would be the second longest in India after the famous Bogibeel Bridge in Assam. The difficult terrain that the bridge is being constructed over is reflected in the pier heights, which range from 8 to 26.3 meters.
Officials predict that the remaining construction will be finished by March 2026.
"Land acquisition played a crucial role in this massive infrastructure project," stated Akshay Sunil Agrawal, the district collector of Nayagarh. The job is almost 90% finished. The train ride across this bridge will provide passengers with an amazing perspective of the surrounding landscape once it is completed.
A Beautiful Journey for Travelers
Raised high above the rolling terrain, the railway viaduct is anticipated to become one of the area's most visually spectacular routes.
As the train glides over the towering structure, passengers can take in expansive vistas of rivers, hills, and woods. In the meantime, 49 villages have been moved to make way for the construction of a sizable reservoir over the Brutanga River in Nayagarh.
When finished, the reservoir will allow the Khurda–Balangir railway line to pass through and irrigate more than 23,000 hectares of farmland.
