A woman was arrested in Puri for allegedly trying to use fake money to defraud a shopkeeper. Meera Saha, the accused, is said to have used counterfeit notes in quantities of Rs 500, Rs 200, and Rs 100, some of which were later found in her bag.
Meera Saha reportedly went to Arun Kumar Sahu's store in the Matiapada neighborhood of Puri and spent Rs 40 on ice cream. She allegedly received Rs 160 in change after passing over a Rs 200 counterfeit note.
When the shopkeeper questioned the note's authenticity, locals stepped in and arrested the woman. Later, she was found in possession of many counterfeit notes of various values. After that, she was turned over to the Kumbharpada police. The woman stated during interrogation that the money was "meant for children to play with," although others claimed she had frequently engaged in similar activities in the neighborhood.
Kumbharpada Police have opened an investigation into the event and are confirming whether the woman is involved in a larger fraudulent currency scheme, according to Puri SP. But after conducting a preliminary examination, the authorities discovered that the currencies were kid-friendly.
After issuing a warning, the police discharged the woman without filing a complaint.
