At the current G7 Foreign Ministers' Meet in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Tuesday, Anita Anand, Canada's minister of foreign affairs, referred to India as a crucial ally.
According to a readout from Global Affairs Canada, or GAC, Anand and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed the progress being made on the Canada-India joint road map, which outlines a plan to improve cooperation in important areas like energy, trade, and people-to-people ties, as well as the ongoing law-enforcement dialogue between Canadian and Indian authorities.
Anand "reiterated Canada's appreciation" for India's involvement in this year's G7 talks.
On Tuesday, Jaishankar showed up for the two-day meeting. It will go on till Wednesday.
"Appreciated the New Roadmap 2025's implementation progress. After the Tuesday night meeting, he wrote on social media, "Look forward to the further rebuilding of our bilateral partnership."
Anand also sent her condolences for Monday night's fatal explosion in the Red Fort neighborhood of New Delhi.
Jaishankar also had a meeting with Yvette Cooper, the foreign secretary of the United Kingdom. They reaffirmed "Vision 2035 for further deepening cooperation across key areas" and acknowledged "the positive momentum" in ties, he said.
Additionally, Jaishankar visited Dr. Juan Ramón de la Fuente of Mexico, Mauro Vieira of Brazil, and Johann Wadephul, the foreign minister of Germany.
Anand and Jaishankar had met on the fringes of the UN General Assembly in late September, and this was their third bilateral encounter in 45 days.
Anand then traveled to India in October, where they drafted a joint statement that serves as the "roadmap" for their future partnership. This is "a reflection of momentum in the bilateral relationship," according to GAC.
