Jay Dholakia of the BJP wins the Nuapada by-election in Odisha by more than 80,000 votes.

According to election officials, BJP candidate Jay Dholakia won the Nuapada assembly bypoll in Odisha on Friday by 83,748 votes.
The state's primary opposition, the BJD, was demoted to third place, while the Congress secured the second spot, they claimed.
Dholakia received 1,23,869 votes, whereas Ghasiram Majhi, the Congress candidate who was closest to him, received 40,121. The BJD's Snehangini Chhuria received 38,408 votes.
However, the results have not yet been updated on the Election Commission's website.
Jay is the son of Rajendra Dholakia, the late BJD MLA whose passing made the bypoll necessary.

The BJP would benefit greatly from the outcome of the bypoll, which was the state's first election after the assembly election last year.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who made at least six trips to Nuapada prior to the election, saw it as a war for reputation.
It is particularly noteworthy that the Congress won second place in this election, since it hopes to overtake the BJD as the state's primary opposition.
The loss would further lower the morale of the BJD, which lost the legislative elections last year.
Out of the eight by-elections in the nation, the bypoll had the greatest voter turnout, at 83.45%.

Voting for the bypoll, which had 14 contenders, took place on November 11.
The win, according to the chief minister, has opened a new chapter in the political history of the state.
"This triumph demonstrates the public's total faith and trust in the policies, principles, and people-welfare initiatives of our government. He said on X, "The people of Nuapada have given the BJP a clear mandate by supporting development and rejecting the opposition parties' false promises and smear campaigns.
"I express my heartfelt gratitude to every citizen of Nuapada while extending hearty congratulations and best wishes to Nuapada's newly elected MLA, Shri Jay Dholkia," he said.

According to Majhi, the only way to define growth is via PM Narendra Modi's leadership.
"For the past almost a year and a half, our government has been working nonstop day and night for the welfare of Odisha's citizens and the state's development under his beliefs and direction. We have new strength and inspiration thanks to the people of Nuapada's support," he remarked.
Manmoahn Samal, the state head of the BJP, expressed gratitude to the Nuapada residents for their "development" decision.
"Nuapada has a number of issues that neither the Congress nor the BJD were able to address. As a result, people backed the BJP, which is dedicated to the region's development," he told reporters.

BJD vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra, who oversaw the party's bypoll, said that the election was rigged and expressed surprise at the result.
"It is a big margin that demonstrates the BJP's egregious election tampering through the use of government machinery. The EC observers who were meant to be impartial also turned into silent onlookers, he claimed, despite the fact that we brought up a number of abnormalities.
Majhi, a Congress candidate who finished second in the seat's 2024 assembly elections, claimed that "money played a major role" in the by-election.
"Even though I had a strong position throughout the electioneering process, the money issue has caused things to change in the final few days. "Money is nothing less than god, but it's not god," he declared.
