Following the unexplained death of a Plus Two Arts student on Friday within its dormitory campus in Bhubaneswar, the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), which was established by Achyuta Samanta, has once again come under investigation.
Preliminary reports state that the student, who was from the Nuapada area, was discovered hanging within the dormitory. Following notification, the Infocity Police and scientific team arrived on the scene, removed the body, and started looking into what happened.
AIIMS Post-Mortem
A post-mortem will be performed on the body at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, in front of the departed student's relatives. The goal of this process is to pinpoint the precise cause of death.Even though the incident happened over 12 hours ago, neither the police nor the institution have released an official statement on what happened or whether an internal investigation has been started.
Pattern of Previous Accusations
Serious questions concerning student safety and institutional supervision have been raised by this most recent fatality. At KISS, this kind of thing has happened before. A Class IX student from the Keonjhar area was allegedly brutally murdered in December of last year, which caused widespread indignation and demonstrations. Several previous claims of student deaths at KISS were reexamined during the study.

Over the years, families from districts like Keonjhar, Gajapati, and Malkangiri have reported suspicious or unexplained deaths of their wards at KISS; these instances begin in 2016 and continue into 2023 and 2025. Some accused the defendants of aiding and abetting murder, while others saw the situation as questionable.
Questioned Accountability
Systemic changes and open accountability procedures inside KISS, according to critics, are still lacking after numerous FIRs (First Information Reports) and public discussions. The most recent death has raised concerns once again over the institution's general supervision, the effectiveness of the grievance redressal procedures, the provision of mental health help for students, and the supervision of the dorms.
