The Odisha Tourism Department has been ordered by the Orissa High Court to expedite the long-delayed development of the Chaumukh-Dagara sea beach in the Balasore district and make sure the project is finished as soon as possible.
A split bench made up of Chief Justice Harish Tandon and Justice M.S. Raman issued the decision on Tuesday while resolving a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking judicial intervention to restart the delayed tourism project.
The New Indian Express reports that Anoj Kumar Mohapatra and Rajesh Choudhury, residents of Baliapal, filed the PIL to draw the court's notice to the lengthy delay in developing the lovely beach despite its enormous tourism potential.
In 1998, the Tourism Department recognized the Chaumukh-Dagara coastline as a potential travel destination, according to the petition. Because of its strategic location, unspoiled natural beauty, and proximity to river estuaries, the site has the potential to become a major tourist destination that might enhance the state's economy.
The petitioners contended that in addition to drawing tourists, its expansion will boost business chances, provide jobs, and improve the socioeconomic circumstances of the local populace.
The Basic Tourism Infrastructural Development Project for Chaumukh-Dagara beach has already started, Additional Government Advocate Debasish Tripathy said the court during the hearing. According to him, the project's land demarcation has been finished, and construction is anticipated to start soon. The High Court ordered the Tourism Department to hasten all outstanding work and guarantee the project's timely implementation after observing the progress.
