Over 20 lakh names were removed from Odishas draft electoral rolls

As the Election Commission released the draft electoral rolls on Sunday, the names of over 20 lakh people were removed from the voter lists in Odisha after the Special Intensive Revision's enumeration phase.
When the election roll was frozen on May 20, Odisha had 3.33 crore voters, according to Chief election Officer (CEO) R S Gopalan.
According to him, the electoral list currently has 3.13 crore voters, comprising 1.60 crore men, 1.53 crore women, and 2,775 third-gender individuals, following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) enumeration procedure that took place between May 30 and June 28.According to the CEO, of the 20 lakh voters whose names were removed from the electoral roll, 8.32 lakh passed away, 10.07 lakh moved or did not show up for the election, and 1.58 lakh identities were discovered to be enrolled as voters in various locations.
Additionally, he stated that during the enumeration phase, about 14,000 voters failed to return their forms to the booth-level officers (BLOs).At a press conference, Gopalan informed the reporters that voters whose names were missing from the draft electoral roll could file a claim or protest via the BLO, the ECINET mobile app, or voters.eci.gov.in.
He stated that the final electoral roll would be released on September 6 and that claims and objections will be reviewed until August 4.

"If someone's name does not feature in the draft voter list, the person needs to fill up a form and submit it to poll authorities along with a declaration form and other documents," the CEO stated.
Between July 5 and August 4, claims and objections will be received. By September 2, 147 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and 994 assistant EROs will review these instances.
If required, more officers would be engaged from time to time to dispose of the claims and objections within the statutory time period, Gopalan added.Commenting on the draft electoral rolls, BJD vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra stated, “Not 20 lakh, names of over 27 lakh voters were deleted from the lists. Seven lakh more voters' names have been concealed. The removal of the names of 20 lakh voters who are "against the ruling BJP" was allegedly a "conspiracy," according to Congress Legislature Party leader Rama Chandra Kadam.
In the upcoming days, Kadam promised, his party will bring up the matter both inside and outside the assembly.
BJP MLA Babu Singh responded to remarks made by opposition leaders by saying that the ECI, not the BJP, had updated the voters' list.“Those who have any objection to the draft list can submit claims to the ECI through proper channel,” Singh said.
