"Project Freedom plus": Trump suggests that if the Iran deal is not "signed up," the effort to escort ships in Hormuz will be revived.

In light of growing regional tensions in the Gulf, US President Donald Trump stated on Friday (local time) that his government might think about restarting the now-canceled maritime security program "Project Freedom" in order to facilitate the passage of commercial ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
Before heading to a dinner at his golf course in Sterling, Virginia, Trump told reporters at the White House that he might "go back to Project Freedom" if a deal cannot be reached, but that it would be "Project Freedom plus." He noted that the initiative would be the same as its predecessor, "plus other things."

"We'll go a different route if everything doesn't get signed up, buttoned up," Trump stated.Project Freedom is a fantastic idea, in my opinion, but there are alternative methods to execute it. If things don't work out, we might return to Project Freedom, but it would be Project Freedom plus—that is, Project Freedom plus other things," he continued.
Trump stated in a post on Truth Social that the decision was made in response to appeals from Pakistan, which has been serving as a mediator to help Washington and Tehran reach a peace agreement, as well as other nations.
Additionally, Trump asserted that the decision was made in response to what he called "significant military gains during the campaign against Iran and progress toward a potential agreement with Iranian representatives."

The halt was made to "see whether or not the Agreement can be finalised and signed" between Tehran and Washington, the US president added. We have mutually agreed that, while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, Project Freedom (the Movement of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be paused for a brief period of time to see whether or not the Agreement can be finalised and signed, based on the request of Pakistan and other countries, the tremendous military success we have had during the Campaign against the Country of Iran, and the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran," the post stated.

According to NBC News, President Donald Trump reportedly put an end to the project because Saudi Arabia refused to permit American aircraft involved in the initiative to fly over Saudi airspace or utilise Prince Sultan Airbase southeast of Riyadh.
"Project Freedom" was introduced by Trump on Sunday. He stated that nations all over the world had asked the United States to help them securely steer their ships out of the strategically important canal.
Under Project Freedom, US Central Command (CENTCOM) personnel began the operation on Monday to assist merchant ships wishing to pass freely through the vital international trade route. The US military will assist the operation by deploying guided-missile destroyers, more than 100 land and sea-based aircraft, multi-domain unmanned platforms, and 15,000 service people, according to a CENTCOM statement.
