Mani Shankar Aiyar, a seasoned Congress leader, has once again caused the Grand Old Party to seem foolish. The former Union Minister made contentious comments about Shashi Tharoor, Jairam Ramesh, and Pawan Khera, among other top party colleagues, in an exclusive interview with NDTV. In addition, he claimed that Congress leaders "hate each other more than they hate the Communists," which is why the party will lose the next Kerala Assembly elections.
Aiyar's shocking revelation coincides with a backlash to his recent laudatory remarks about Kerala Chief Minister and CPM leader Pinarayi Vijayan, which included a forecast that the Left veteran will remain in the top position after the next elections.
Khera is not a party spokesperson, according to Aiyar, who called him a "puppet" in an interview with NDTV. "For the last two years, he has been making accusations against me. The Congress party would remain in its current state if it is unable to select a spokesperson other than Pawan Khera," he stated.
Aiyar responded, "I want the Congress to win, but I don't believe it will because Congress leaders are divided," when asked about the party's chances in Kerala. More than they despise the Communists, they despise one another.
Aiyar also criticized Shashi Tharoor, a four-time member of parliament from Thiruvananthapuram, who has had his share of disagreements with the party leadership over his stance on topics like Operation Sindoor.Aiyar referred to Tharoor as "anti-Pakistan" and claimed that he aspires to be the "next foreign minister".
Additionally, Aiyar stated that Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh must "keep his job."
Months before the state elections where the Congress would battle the Left, the veteran leader, who has recently made headlines for his spontaneous comments, embarrassed the Congress by praising Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at an event in Thiruvananthapuram
"Vision 2031: Development and Democracy" is the title of the seminar where Aiyar gave the remarks. Actually, a number of intellectuals had received letters from the state Congress leadership advising them not to go to the seminar.
At the seminar, Aiyar said, "I do not know whether this is a compliment or an insult, but I deeply regret the absence of my party colleagues on this occasion, which is a state occasion and therefore, a national occasion."
According to Aiyar, a former minister of panchayati raj, Kerala is the leader in panchayati raj and has realized the dream of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. Therefore, Chief Minister Vijayan, I must bow down to you and ask that you take up the torch that the Congress has left behind. "Thank you," he said, "and may Kerala prosper."
The Congress reacted swiftly. "Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar has had no connection whatsoever with the Congress for the past few years," Khera wrote in a post on X.He writes and speaks just in his individual capacity.
"Let there be no doubt," replied Ramesh. Keralans will reinstate the UDF in order to have more accountable and responsive government. They are also aware that the BJP and LDF are secret allies.
