Bringing an end to all speculations surrounding former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly’s biopic, actor Rajkummar Rao has been locked to portray ‘Dada’ in the upcoming biographical film. Rajkummar Rao Confirms Involvement in Sourav Ganguly Biopic
During a recent interview with NDTV, Rajkummar Rao confirmed his involvement in the highly anticipated biopic of Sourav Ganguly. The actor stated, “I am nervous... It’s a huge responsibility, but it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
It is noteworthy to mention that Ganguly played for the Indian cricket team from 1992 to 2008. Ganguly amassed 18,575 runs in Tests and ODIs and has 38 centuries to his name. Rao has earlier portrayed several real-life characters, including freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the web series Bose: Dead/Alive and visually impaired industrialist Srikanth Bolla in Srikanth. Rao, with his acting chops, will hopefully justify his role as Sourav Ganguly.
The official title and the director of the film are yet to be announced by the makers. According to reports, filming for the biopic is set to commence in January, with a release in theatres scheduled for December 2026.
Sourav Ganguly Considers Rajkummar Rao as ‘Right Person’ For His Biopic
Notably, Ganguly had previously spoken about the film’s casting and had hinted at the development months back. Recently, he said that the makers have chosen the right person for the role. He also said that he would help the actor in ensuring the film stays true to the real story.
PTI quoted the former cricketer as saying, "It’s going well. It will be released next December. Shooting starts in January. The pre-production, story writing and scripting takes a lot of time. And shooting doesn’t take that much time. It’s about 3 months and then the post-production takes time."
“I think the right person is doing it… I’ll help him with everything," added Ganguly.
