The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) are working together to clear encroachments in Salia Sahi, Bhubaneswar, in preparation for the construction of a 13-kilometer left parallel road from Ekamra Kanana to Andharua. As a result, a large eviction effort has started.
517 homes have been designated for destruction in this phase, which will run through November 24, according to officials. Although some of the village has previously been evacuated, the remaining area now needs to be made available for continuous road development.
According to sources, the Hatiasuni neighborhood will be the starting point for the eviction drive. In opposition to the eviction drive, the locals organized a sit-in."Until we are properly rehabilitated, we will not allow eviction," a protester declared.
Authorities have sent teams from BMC, BDA, WATCO, and the Electricity Department in addition to five police platoons to guarantee a smooth execution. To avoid any disruptions, heavy machinery has been placed at the location, and security has been strengthened.
However, a number of Salia Sahi inhabitants have opposed the campaign, claiming insufficient support for rehabilitation. Officials claim that the expulsion is necessary for the city's long-term infrastructure plans and road connectivity, notwithstanding the complaints. Over the coming days, the demolition operation is anticipated to proceed under close monitoring.Notably, the parallel road project covers 900 meters of Salia Sahi. The remaining homes within 700 meters will be removed today after the residences within 200 meters were cleared earlier.
