Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) got off to a great start with the ball in their second IPL 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday, and their owner Sanjiv Goenka's joy was clear to see. Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami destroyed the dangerous SRH opening combo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head cheaply, while Prince Yadav clean bowled Ishan Kishan, leaving SRH at 11/3. Sanjiv Goenka, watching from the stands, appeared to praise the heavens as LSG made an excellent start.
LSG lost their first game of the season against the Delhi Capitals. As a result, Goenka must have been relieved after their fantastic start against SRH.
Mohammed Shami's statistics of 2/9 and skipper Rishabh Pant's unbeaten 68 led Lucknow Super Giants to a nail-biting five-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL on Sunday.
Shami's spectacular first stint had Hyderabad at 26/4 before the home team scored 156/9 at Uppal Stadium.
Lucknow started confidently but faltered in the middle, but the left-handed Pant remained calm and guided the team home with one ball to spare for their first win of the season in two matches.Aiden Markram's 45 off 27 balls set up the chase, but Lucknow lost two quick wickets: impact substitute Ayush Badoni, stumped for 12, and Nicholas Pooran, run out for one.
With nine runs required from the final over, Pant, a wicketkeeper, smashed three fours, including the winning boundary off Jaydev Unadkat.
Shami stood out after dismissing Hyderabad's dangerous openers Abhishek Sharma for a duck and Travis Head for seven on consecutive balls in his first two overs.
He had Sharma caught at short third on the final delivery of his opener, and Head was caught at mid-off on the first ball of his second over.
