West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta presented the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) first complete state budget for FY 2026–2027 on Monday, outlining a number of projects in a major infrastructure push for the state.
The government provided significant support for "civil aviation" improvements, among other infrastructure initiatives. The Finance Minister explained that the primary goal of the action is to make "flying" more accessible and reasonably priced for regular people.
In order to alleviate passenger congestion at Kolkata airport, Dasgupta said during his budget speech that the West Bengal government would designate 1,000 acres near Kalyani for a greenfield airport. Dasgupta added that more money will be set aside for "strategic" airports and that one current airport will be extended.

Additionally, Dasgupta declared in the Assembly on Monday, June 22, that the government would hire one lakh persons for a variety of open positions. Additionally, he stated that the government will set aside 33% of open positions for female applicants. According to the Minister, the government will fill 20,000 positions in the State Police Force.
According to a senior source who spoke to PTI on Sunday, the West Bengal administration plans to present two bills in the Assembly that will specifically address public disturbances, vandalism, and assaults on law enforcement and public employees. He stated that the proposed legislation will probably be presented to the state Cabinet for approval by the Home Department.
