The Bishnoi Gang asked Ranveer Singh for ten crores, and the note came from a US number.

Sources told NDTV on Friday morning that Harry Boxer, a major member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, attempted to extort actor Ranveer Singh out of Rs 10 crore. A threatening voicemail sent to the actor's manager's WhatsApp account from a US phone number stated the extortion demand.
Additionally, according to sources, the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police had been in touch with US officials to inquire further about the number. Following five gunshots outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's house this month, in which the perpetrators were apprehended, Boxer allegedly sent the note.
The threat message sent to Singh has not yet resulted in the filing of a complaint.

Meanwhile, police sources told NDTV on Thursday that Deepak Sharma, Sonu Kumar, and Sunny Kumar—the three individuals accused of firing shots outside Rohit Shetty's house—had been given Rs 3 lakh. The Bishnoi gang paid Rs 50,000 in advance and took responsibility.
Shubham Lonkar, a member of the Bishnoi gang, was reportedly connected to the incident; he is also wanted for the October 2024 murder of Baba Siddiqui, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, and for bullets that were fired outside the home of Salman Khan, another well-known Bollywood actor.

According to police sources, at least five 7.62 mm bullets—which are lethal due to their tremendous velocity and damage—were fired from a sophisticated but domestically manufactured firearm during the event.

Following the gunfire, a terrifying warning was sent on social media by an account connected to Lonkar. It was a trailer. The message warned those in the film industry that they may suffer a fate worse than that of Siddiqui, who was shot dead in Bandra, and stated, "If he still doesn't understand our warnings, the gun will be fired not outside his house, but inside his bedroom on his chest."Over the past few months and years, Bishnoi's gang—which the increasingly powerful and lethal mob boss operates from inside a purportedly high-security jail in Gujarat—has been connected to multiple homicides, extortion attempts, and drug and weapon trafficking networks.

As evidenced by the murder of Khalistani Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023, the gang has a strong presence in Canada, where they were even labeled "terrorists" in September of last year.
