The demand for 10,057 VIP tickets from Karnataka is the reason Chinnaswamy lost the IPL 2026 final: report

IPL final and playoff matches were moved from the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here due to the Karnataka State Cricket Association's request for an extra 10,057 free tickets, according to a BCCI source. As Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the reigning champions, Bengaluru was supposed to host the final. However, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal told PTI that the huge demand for free tickets at the comparatively small venue—which can only hold 35,000 spectators—made it "untenable" to hold the finale here.
The title match on May 31 will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, while the playoff games this season will take place in Dharamsala on May 26 and New Chandigarh on May 27 and 29."Tickets worth 15% of the stadium's capacity are free for the KSCA. But KSCA asked for an extra 10,057 tickets, the person told PTI.
In order to satisfy the requests of the state legislature members alone, the association required about 900 passes.KSCA committed to giving MLAs and MLCs three free passes apiece, for a total of about 900 passes.Furthermore, in addition to a restricted quantity of complimentary passes for hospitality above the typical 15%, the Expert Committee and the additional agreements with the Karnataka government would have required an extra 750 complimentary tickets." Only roughly 20,000 tickets would have remained for the fans as a result.

The association also needed a tranche of purchased tickets, albeit at a discounted price, according to the source.Additionally, it included 900 tickets in the Members' Stand for members' spouses and children and 3,007 tickets in the P3 stand at a discounted price of Rs 2,000 for cricket-playing groups. In addition, the association had to buy 3,500 tickets for life members to buy across all stands and 1,000 tickets in the M4 stand at an average cost of roughly Rs 2000, according to the source.
The numbers supported Dhumal's claim.Additionally, the stadium's capacity is not very large (Chinnaswamy). There were also very few tickets available for league games.
