The US stands firmly with India in the fight against terrorism, US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau assured an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. The delegation met Landau in Washington as part of their multi-nation tour following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
Delegation Briefs US on Operation Sindoor
The Indian delegation updated Landau on Operation Sindoor, India's counter-terror mission targeting infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation came in response to the Pahalgam attack. Landau called the meeting "GREAT" on social media and reaffirmed America's support for India's anti-terror efforts and the strengthening of US-India strategic relations.
“The all-party parliamentary delegation led by Dr. @ShashiTharoor had a warm and candid conversation,” the Indian Embassy posted on X. Landau echoed the sentiment, stressing the shared goal of expanding trade and fostering growth for both nations.
US Senate Members Express Solidarity
The delegation also met Senator Chris Van Hollen and briefed him on the terror attack and India’s decisive military response. Van Hollen expressed solidarity with the victims and said the US supports India’s right to self-defence.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also had a phone call with Senator Cory Booker, where he detailed the "monstrous" Pahalgam attack and outlined India’s firm resolve against cross-border terrorism. Booker unequivocally condemned terrorism and expressed support for India's position, calling the conversation “warm and productive.”
Broad Political Representation and Strategic Dialogue
Apart from Tharoor, the delegation includes MPs Sarfaraz Ahmad, Ganti Harish Madhur Balayogi, Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Milind Deora, Tejasvi Surya, and India’s former Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
The Indian delegation also attended a special reception at the Indian Embassy, which was joined by several American lawmakers, Congress members, and policy experts, further cementing the strategic partnership and bipartisan support for India in Washington.
