An heated social media debate concerning Indian workplace culture has been triggered by a Bengaluru founder's tweet stating that they are looking for applicants who can work close to 80 hours per week. Despite some criticism for the tweet, the entrepreneur explained why he believes workers should put in "60 to 80 hours a week."
In his article, Kumar discussed the need for a "full or intern stack engineer" for his business and enumerated the qualifications that applicants should possess.
According to him, applicants for the Bengaluru onsite position need to be able to "pull off 60-80 hours per week" and work six days a week.
"I'm not trying to find a novice. I'm not searching for a cracked developer either, but if you are, that's great. Someone who has no commitment concerns and believes in Runable's mission to become the "General AI Agent For Every Task," he continued.
Why is the workweek so long?
In an interview with HT.com, Kumar gave an explanation for his demands. "I think your twenties are the best years to push yourself, pick things up quickly, and lay a solid professional foundation."
It seems unjust to later blame the government or businesses for a lack of opportunity if someone is unwilling to work the 60 to 80 hours per week necessary to advance at that phase.
What was the response on social media?
One person wrote, "To be honest, 80 hours doesn't feel healthy." More than twelve hours a day, huh? "Why not just hire someone really competent so they work 60 hours?" another person proposed. 80 hours indicates some effort that is not very efficient.
"Six days a week should be illegal wt*," said a third. "How many hours are you willing to work?" asked Kumar. “Requirements?,” wrote a fourth. You ought to be gullible and exploitable.
