Three Odisha workers killed as truck mows them down in Hyderabad

In a tragic incident, three migrant workers from Odisha lost their lives on Monday afternoon after a speeding pickup truck rammed into them from behind on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Keesara in Hyderabad. Police identified the deceased as C Mohan, Jairam, and Narayana, all aged between 22 and 30 years.

The trio was part of a group of workers engaged in planting saplings along the service road as part of a beautification drive. Around 2:45 pm, while they were walking beside the carriageway, the truck, travelling towards Shameerpet, veered dangerously close to the edge and hit them with force.

Keesara Inspector A Anjaneyulu said preliminary findings suggest the driver may have dozed off, losing control of the vehicle. The impact killed all three workers instantly.

“It appears to be a case of negligence due to driver fatigue. However, further investigation is underway,” the officer added.

The driver was apprehended shortly after the accident. Police have confirmed that he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the BNS.

The bodies were shifted for post-mortem, while authorities informed the victims’ families in Odisha. The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and fatigue management for drivers on long stretches like the ORR.
