The Central Government on Wednesday promised Assam and Arunachal Pradesh full cooperation in addressing the continuing flood disaster and reconstructing damaged infrastructure, as roughly 12 districts in Assam are expected to be affected by El Nino-induced irregular rainfall.
The commitment was made at the Assam Flood Review Meeting, which was jointly hosted by Union Ministers for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju and Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Lok Seva Bhawan in Dispur. State government representatives and members of the Assam Cabinet also attended the conference.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan told the reporters following the meeting that the Center has examined the flood situation in both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, where persistent monsoon rains have resulted in extensive damage. Even in settlements that were previously thought to be safe from flooding, he claimed that abrupt cloudbursts and strong rainfall altered river flows, causing significant damage.In both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the damage assessment is still in progress. Many lives were saved through rapid rescue operations as a result of the Assam Government's prompt response, which was spearheaded by the Chief Minister and the administration, according to Chouhan.

Roads, bridges, electrical poles, water supply systems, homes, crops, and cattle have all been harmed by the floods, he said. The State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) is already funding relief efforts, and following the final damage assessment, the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) will give additional financial support.
Chouhan highlighted prospective worries, stating that El Nino may have an impact on about 12 districts in Assam. This might lead to erratic weather patterns, such as periods of strong rainfall, insufficient rainfall, and irregular rain gaps. According to him, the Assam government and the center have started organizing both short-term relief efforts and long-term plans to deal with these issues.Additionally, the Union Minister promised to provide crop insurance and other relief measures to farmers whose crops have been harmed. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and other Central Government programs, families whose homes have been destroyed will receive assistance in rebuilding their dwellings.
Chouhan reaffirmed the Center's pledge, stating that all Central agencies would help Assam and Arunachal Pradesh repair damaged roads, temporary bridges, power supplies, and other vital infrastructure.The Indian government firmly supports the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. In terms of relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction activities, we won't stop at anything," he declared.
