On Thursday night, during the final day's festivities of the annual Bali Yatra in Cuttack, a huge throng gathered to see Bollywood playback singer Shreya Ghoshal perform live, creating a chaotic situation.
At least two persons were rendered unconscious due to the stampede-like situation caused by the overwhelming crowd near the main stage.
On the final day of the event, thousands of people flocked to the venue to enjoy it, according to eyewitnesses. However, crowd control measures proved ineffective as people started pushing against the barricades in an effort to get closer to the stage. A few people collapsed from tiredness and suffocation as a result of the pressure's panic and disorientation.
Police and security officers raced to the scene to reestablish order. The two unconscious people were promptly transported to a local hospital for care. Nevertheless, no unpleasant incidence has been reported during the filing of this report.
The Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) and other senior police officers arrived at the location to keep an eye on the situation and make sure the crowd safely dispersed. Senior officials are also on hand to make sure the concert runs smoothly and to stop any unfortunate incidents.
Authorities have urged attendees to remain composed and adhere to safety precautions when attending public events.
